I’m based in Toowoomba, Australia and spend my days in the office, my community or enjoying the sun.

After spending years working with people of all walks of life in their most vulnerable and hardest moments, I decided to build a space for those of us who often feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges. A space that might just help you and I find some clarity, grace and hopefully ease in our personal journeys.

Friends Who Can Be F#%*ed Podcast

A collaboration with my friend and colleague, Cody, a social worker, who, through many hours of conversation we found we were able to talk about many of the ND challenges our clients face navigating new friendships in an authentic and funny way. So many of us feel deeply, face loneliness and jump into new relationships with both feet only to face heartbreak and more loneliness. We discuss our own friendship alongside helping others navigate the beautiful mess that is human relationships and hopefully friendships. We decided it might be worth sharing with the world… if it helps 1 person navigate their relationships with more ease then it would be worth it. Why? Because we are friends who can be f#%ed (but don’t actually F#%*k.

About me

Carlen Knight Nexus developed after building a solid reputation in my broader community as someone who is a trusted and safe space for those navigating life's complexities. Navigating life based on the core belief that we are all interconnected, I try to serve as a steadfast guide—a lodestar—that helps you anchor yourself in a world that is often messy and challenging. I empower you to embrace your authentic self, as a deep thinker and feeler myself, I provide creative and consistent solutions that foster personal growth.

My work is built on the understanding that influence is a continuous, bidirectional cycle. I am not just trying to provide answers; we engage in a shared journey of learning and discovery, ensuring that every interaction has a positive impact on you, your relationships, and the world around you.

Why?

Because I believe we are all just people, people are complex, life is hard and messy and we all make mistakes that we need to try our best to learn from. I want to make sure that I have a positive impact on as many people as possible in my time, I enjoy helping people to feel better about themselves, navigate life and their relationships with more ease and grace, and in a way that feels good to them at their core while also causing minimal harm to others and the environment. I don't judge others because I firmly believe we can never truly know what their life experiences are that have lead them to that point or choice.

How did I get to this point?

Growing up I was always on the outer, the same peers who ostracised me when in a group would come to me to talk through and get advice about their life challenges. I followed my desire to help people and studied Paramedicine at Uni and became an Advanced Care Paramedic with the Qld Ambulance Service for a number of years where I developed PTSD and burnt out. Following my interest and joy in cooking, I started a fast tracked Chefs apprenticeship with a beautiful restaurant in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. 18months and many dishes later, I let myself be driven by my inner compass back to helping others. So I moved to Sydney where I studied my Masters of Occupational Therapy and found an interest in mental health. I worked with not-for-profits and engaged in research projects before moving into the private practice setting. First, working for a company then running my own. In this space I have seen families struggle to feel seen, heard and understood as they try to navigate systems that are meant to be make their lives better, experiencing a deep sense of powerlessness. The caregivers too often go without support while experiencing intense fatigue, their lives, careers and relationships suffering under the weight of caregiving complex families. Young people struggling to navigate a world so rich in everything yet void of the things needed most; connection and compassion. So, after writing my first blog post and developing some confidence to put myself out there, I have spent my weekend parenting and putting this website together.
